While we were down there this afternoon, the oldest (a girl) slipped out through a hole in the fence to go talk to her mom, who was waiting in the park which is next to the pool.
Me (to middle boy, the 10 or 11 year old): Uh..your sister IS coming back right?
B1: Yeah I think so. Why?
M; Because you guys are REALLY too young to be here by yourselves. You know that right?
B1: We're not here by ourselves. *Older Sister* is with us.
M; Well, she's really too young to be supervising you guys by herself. Your parents could get in trouble for this you know.
B1: Nuh uh! *gives me this defiant look*
Me: Yes, they could. They could be fined 45$ because you guys are here alone and they'd be fined $45 for each time you came down here without a parent and somebody reported it. I'm going to let it slide this once because I'm a nice person. But if I see you guys here again, I'm going to get your address and call the mgmt company. You guys don't need to be down here by yourselves. It's against HOA rules. I am not here to babysit you and neither are the other adults in this pool. You need to bring your parents with you the next time you come down here.
M: Ok..but I did warn you. I'm serious..I will ask you for your parents' names and your address so I can report it.
B1: Yeah right.
When I left probably 15 minutes or so later, all three of them were sitting at the picnic table next to the park, whispering together. I'm sure B1 slipped out through the hole in the fence and ran to get his older sister to tell her what I'd said. I do intend on going through with it, but I'm afraid there will be a pissed off parent knocking on my door.
I am SICk of parents ignoring the rule about no children under the age of 16 at the pool alone. It also states in the HOA rules that you can't send an older sibling to babysit the younger ones unless the older sibling is 18 or older.
